One song, Mellow Mosaic, has 9,006 of our catalog's 13,758 Spotify streams, 65% of everything. It didn't get there through editorial playlists or promotion. It spread on Instagram Reels and TikTok first, and then Spotify's own personalised features, like Daylist, Radio and Mixes, started playing it to people with similar taste. Here's the data behind that, and what we take from it.
Mellow Mosaic, lofi by Neural Rhythms
The shape of it
Our Spotify numbers as of 13 September 2026:
- Mellow Mosaic: 9,006 streams, 118 saves in the last 28 days.
- Cello Whispers, our second-biggest track: 436 streams.
- The next ten tracks sit between 128 and 319 streams each, and almost all of them are on the same album as Mellow Mosaic.
That last point matters. Listeners who found Mellow Mosaic played the rest of its album. The album around it, World Cadences, has over 11,000 streams; our next-best album has 493.
Step one: short video
Before anything happened on Spotify, Mellow Mosaic started appearing under Reels. Our distributor reports how many times our music is used in videos on Instagram and Facebook. For Mellow Mosaic:
| Month (2026) | Uses on Instagram and Facebook |
|---|---|
| February | 12,436 |
| March | 92,786 |
| April | 139,354 |
| May | 240,892 |
| June | 249,036 |
| July | 283,352 |
TikTok followed the same curve at a smaller scale, peaking at about 15,000 uses in April, 65% of them in the United States.
People picked the track from the music library inside Instagram, others heard it and used the same sound, and it kept going. We didn't pitch it or pay for any of it. The details of how it looked from our side are in the Mellow Mosaic story.
Step two: people went looking for it
Some of the people who heard it in a Reel searched for it, Shazamed it, or tapped through to Spotify. That produced the saves and repeat plays that streaming services pay attention to. Google's autocomplete even started suggesting "mellow mosaic neural rhythms". If you're one of those people, here's how to find any song from a Reel.
Step three: Spotify's algorithm took over
Spotify tells artists which playlists their streams come from. Over the past year, Mellow Mosaic's biggest sources were all Spotify's own personalised features:
| Source | Listeners | Streams |
|---|---|---|
| Daylist | 363 | 392 |
| Mixes | 15 | 230 |
| Radio | 65 | 195 |
| On Repeat | 9 | 133 |
| Smart Shuffle | 41 | 58 |
| Your DJ | 13 | 33 |
| Blend | 4 | 13 |
None of these are playlists a person chose to put us on. They're generated for each listener. Daylist reached the most people, a few plays each; Mixes and On Repeat reached fewer people who played it again and again.
Then there are playlists made by listeners themselves, with names like "cool girl apartment", "Jazz, Bass and Vibes", "coffee and flowers 🌷", "lo-fi jazz thursday afternoon" and a German one, "Sommer Altbauwohnung" (summer in an old apartment). Each one only brought a handful of streams, but together they tell you exactly where the song belongs: cozy rooms, coffee, jazz, afternoons.
What we think it means
- Saves and repeats come first, recommendations follow. The personalised features started sending plays once people were saving and replaying the song on their own.
- One song can pull an album. People who liked Mellow Mosaic played its neighbours. That's the argument for putting your best track on a strong album rather than as a lone single.
- The mood is the marketing. Listener playlists put it in apartments and cafés, so we built our site around those rooms: lofi jazz, rainy day lofi and morning lofi.
- You can't plan the spark. We released 671 tracks. We didn't know which one would travel, and we still can't say exactly why it was this one.
What it earned
Reach and money are different things. Mellow Mosaic made $125.53 in royalties, 66% of the catalog's total, and it's the only track that has ever earned on Spotify. The full money breakdown is here.
