Suno lofi prompts: the real ones behind our albums

By Suman Kumar · October 8, 2026

A desk with a glowing lava lamp and an open laptop as a lit night train passes outside the window

We exported the Suno library behind our catalog. Here are the real style prompts for our albums, side by side with how many streams each one got, and what the comparison does and doesn't tell you.

Here are the actual Suno style prompts behind our released lofi albums, copied from our own Suno library, next to the number of Spotify streams each album has had. Most of them were made with Suno v4.5 in mid-2025. Use them as starting points: paste one into Suno's style box, generate a few versions, and keep the one that fits.

One thing up front, because it matters more than any prompt: the prompt decides how a track sounds, not whether anyone hears it. The median album in this list has 12 streams. The difference between our best and worst albums had more to do with how people found them than with the words in the box.

The prompts, most-streamed first

Past Whispers (493 streams)

This lo-fi beats track flows at 70 BPM with lush, warm synth pads carrying the dreamy melody. Gentle wind ambience weaves through, blending seamlessly with soft, swung hip-hop drums—muted kicks, airy snares, light hi-hats. Vinyl crackle, tape saturation, and subtle sidechain glue the sound, wrapping everything in deep nostalgia.

Our most-streamed album after Mellow Mosaic's, and one of the shortest prompts we ever wrote. It names the classic lofi ingredients and not much else.

Past Whispers, an album by Neural Rhythms

Urban Serenity Dorian Whispers (206 streams)

Begin with a 30s intro of subtle marketplace ambience, gentle ukulele melody in F Dorian, warm filtered chords, and soft syncopated percussion accentuating 2/4 time. Deep, rounded bass enters, moving Dorian riffs. Verses add crisp hi-hats, muted keys, and airy pads for depth. Chorus lifts: richer harmonic layers, ukulele arpeggios, bolder bass, denser ambience. Bridge strips back to ukulele, bass, and atmospheric sounds. The second chorus surges with full instrumentation. Outro gently dissolves layers, leaving solo ukulele and fading ambience for a soothing resolution.

A section-by-section plan. Suno follows the broad shape (an intro, a lift, a quieter bridge) more than the exact timings.

Whispering Cosmos (182 streams)

Create a 572s Space Ambient track in F blues, BPM 45-65. Structure: intro, evolving verse, chorus, bridge, outro. Marimba leads with delicate mallet techniques, underpinned by soft whispers and subtle bass lines. Incorporate a 2/4 rhythmic feel with a minimalistic approach and dynamic contrasts. Use delay for warmth, ensure stereo depth and maintain dynamic range. Aim for a wistful mood progressing to resolution, with atmospheric depth and professional mix quality.

Not really lofi: slow, drumless space ambient. It found a few listeners anyway, which is a reminder that "lofi" listeners wander.

Rainlit Jazz Reverie (165 streams)

Create a peaceful lo-fi beats track featuring a warm, mellow electric guitar as the main instrument, playing relaxed, jazzy chords and gentle melodies. Integrate soft, steady rain sounds throughout the background to enhance the calming atmosphere. Use a smooth, laid-back drum groove with soft snares, light hi-hats, and deep, rounded kick drums at a BPM between 70-80 for a chill vibe. Add subtle vinyl crackle and gentle reverb on the guitar for warmth and depth. Emphasize a tranquil, cozy mood with lush, dreamy chords and a relaxed, unhurried rhythm.

The rainy-guitar formula. Tracks from this album sit in our rainy day lofi room.

Rainy Groove Reverie (83 streams)

Generate a chillhop lo-fi track with a calming mood. Feature a warm, melodic electric bass as the main instrument, carrying the groove and providing a soothing foundation. Layer gentle, jazzy electric piano chords and soft, airy synth pads for harmonic support. Integrate realistic rain sounds throughout the track to enhance the relaxing atmosphere. Use crisp, laid-back hip-hop drum patterns with soft snares and brushed hi-hats. Set the tempo between 70-85 BPM to maintain a chill, unhurried vibe. Apply vintage vinyl crackle, tape saturation, and subtle sidechain compression for classic lofi texture. Ensure all elements blend smoothly for a cohesive, atmospheric listening experience.

The same idea with bass as the lead. Leading with an unusual instrument is a good way to make two albums from one mood sound different.

The prompts that went nowhere

Two prompts that look good on paper and got zero streams:

This chillhop lo-fi track at 80 BPM features mellow pizzicato and gentle bowed strings sharing the melodic spotlight. Rounded bass pulses beneath laid-back hip-hop drums, while ambient water textures and vinyl crackle subtly color the mix. Light tape saturation keeps the warmth intimate and immersive throughout.

(Lamplight Melodies. Short, classic, and unheard, which is why we don't believe "short prompts win".)

Chillwave track at 75–90 BPM in E blues and 6/8, opening with textural snowfall FX and distant sitar, gradually introducing pulsing bass and reverb-laden percs. Verse deepens modal themes with sitar bends, slides, and rhythmic plucks, bass weaving melodic countermelodies. [...]

(Frostbound Strings: Midnight Sitar. An interesting sound that doesn't fit any playlist people actually search for.)

What we'd keep, and what we'd change

Keep:

  • Tempo in numbers. "70 BPM" or "70-85 BPM" gets you closer than "slow".
  • One lead instrument. Guitar, electric bass, ukulele, marimba. Naming one gives a track its identity.
  • Texture words. Vinyl crackle, tape saturation, sidechain, soft or muted drums. These are what make it sound like lofi rather than generic chill.
  • An ambience. Rain, wind, café noise, water. It sets the room the track belongs to.

Change:

  • Drop the mixing jargon. Phrases like "professional mix quality" and "precise stereo imaging" didn't do anything we could hear.
  • Be careful with odd meters. We asked for 7/8, 5/4 and 6/8 in some prompts. Suno sometimes follows, but lofi listeners expect a steady 4/4 nod, and those albums found the fewest.
  • Write for a playlist, not for yourself. The albums that found listeners fit a mood people already put on: rain, studying, sleep, cozy jazz. "Celtic lofi in B major" is a beautiful idea with no playlist waiting for it.

A template to start from

Lo-fi hip-hop at 72 BPM. [Lead instrument] plays relaxed, jazzy [major 7th / minor 9th] chords and a simple melody. Soft, swung drums with muted kick and brushed snare. Warm vinyl crackle, light tape hiss, gentle sidechain. [Rain / café / wind] ambience in the background. Calm, nostalgic, instrumental.

Swap the lead instrument and the ambience to move between rooms: electric piano and rain for a rainy day track, upright bass and vinyl for lofi jazz, soft pads and no drums for sleep.

One caveat about Suno today

These prompts were written for Suno v4.5. In September 2026 Suno replaced its older models with v6, and style prompts still work the same way, but the same words won't give you the same track. Treat everything here as a starting point, generate several versions, and trust your ears over the prompt.

And the prompt behind Mellow Mosaic, our only song people know? It isn't in this export: its album was made later in a part of the library the export didn't cover. If we find it, we'll add it here.
