Spooky lofi is lofi that stays calm but turns the lights down: minor and Phrygian melodies, deep drones, lots of space and a few night sounds. It's for studying, reading or streaming through Halloween week without switching to horror soundtracks. We don't have Halloween-themed tracks, but our catalog has a dark corner, and here it is in a set that gets gradually stranger.
What makes music feel spooky
- The Phrygian mode. A minor scale with the second note lowered by a half step. That one note gives melodies an old, eerie, slightly unresolved feel. Two of our albums are built on it.
- Low drones. A deep note that just sits there under everything feels like something is waiting.
- Space. Long reverb and silence between notes make a room sound bigger and emptier.
- Night sounds. Insects, distant water, wind.
- Detune. A little pitch wobble, like an old tape, makes familiar sounds feel off.
None of this needs to be loud. Quiet unease is more fun to work to than screams.

Using it
- Studying through Halloween week: the dark set works like any other lofi, instrumental and steady. Why that matters for studying.
- Horror game streams: everything here is free to use on streams with a credit line; see the free music page.
- After midnight: end with the sleep room when you're done being spooked.
For the rest of the season, the autumn lofi set is the cozier side of October.
